About the Role
NextEra Energy Resources — one of America's largest wholesale electricity generators — is seeking a Principal Engineer to join its Power Generation Division civil/structural wind energy fleet team. This is a senior individual contributor and subject matter expert role, focused on repair, modification, and upgrade projects for wind turbine structural steel, towers, foundations, and associated roadways, with roughly 25% site travel and involvement in critical decisions that shape company-wide engineering objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan, analyze, design, and provide implementation support for repair, modification, and upgrade projects on wind turbine systems and associated foundations
- Prepare project work scopes, cost estimates, schedules, studies, reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Develop contractor bid packages and perform technical bid evaluations for maintenance, repair, and capital improvement projects
- Use advanced engineering methods and techniques to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions
- Collaborate within and across business units to drive project success
- Travel approximately 25% of the time to wind turbine sites to provide on-site technical support
- Respond as needed during off-hours to support 24/7 power generation operations
- Demonstrate high-level creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning and guiding engineering programs
- Manage programs of complex diversity and scope critical to overall company objectives
- Act as a subject matter expert for civil and structural engineering in the wind energy fleet
- Negotiate critical engineering and technical issues with top-level engineers and external organizations
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science in Civil, Structural Engineering
- Ten years of experience in power generation or related industrial fields
- Advanced degree preferred
- Wind turbine structural experience preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (Civil or Structural) preferred
- Experience in project management and/or personnel supervision
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with Maximo or similar enterprise asset management system
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 7+ years minimum engineering experience
