About the Role
NES Fircroft is seeking an Underground Utility Inspector for a 3-6 month contract in South Carolina. This role is central to quality assurance on active utility construction sites, ensuring underground systems are installed to specification and fully compliant with municipal, safety, and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
- Inspect installation of underground utilities including storm drains, sanitary sewer, water mains, services, and fire lines.
- Verify pipe bedding, compaction, and backfill meet specifications.
- Oversee manhole, valve, hydrant, and structure installation.
- Monitor trench safety compliance, shoring, sloping, and OSHA requirements.
- Witness pressure tests, mandrel testing, vacuum tests, deflection tests, and disinfection procedures.
- Confirm adherence to municipal and utility agency standards.
- Document daily construction activities, materials, and compliance issues.
- Communicate deficiencies to contractors and work with project engineers on resolution.
- Ensure environmental regulations are followed, including erosion control and groundwater management.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of experience inspecting underground utility construction.
- Working knowledge of municipal utility standards and installation practices.
- Familiarity with trench safety and confined space requirements.
- Valid driver's license.
