About the Role
Vestas is looking for a senior Power System Engineer based in Leça do Balio, Portugal, to lead grid integration analysis and power system design for wind farm projects across Europe. With 15+ years of experience required, this role plays a critical part in ensuring turbine installations meet national grid codes and deliver reliable power to transmission networks.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize power systems for wind turbine installations and grid integration projects.
- Perform power flow studies, short circuit analysis, and dynamic stability simulations for wind farm electrical systems.
- Develop technical specifications and electrical designs for medium and high voltage grid connection equipment.
- Evaluate and ensure compliance with national and regional grid codes and power quality standards.
- Collaborate with turbine design, project development, and electrical engineering teams to deliver integrated power system solutions.
- Provide technical support during wind farm commissioning and grid connection testing activities.
- Review and approve substation, transformer, and protection relay designs for wind farm projects.
- Support regulatory approval processes and liaise with transmission system operators and utilities.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal technical knowledge sharing.
- Develop and maintain power system simulation models using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power systems engineering, preferably within the wind or renewable energy sector.
- Strong expertise in power flow analysis, fault calculations, protection coordination, and grid integration studies.
- Proficiency with power system simulation software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- In-depth knowledge of grid codes, IEC standards, and interconnection requirements.
- Experience with high voltage substation design and protection systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional international teams.
- Fluency in English required; Portuguese or other European languages are a plus.
