About the Role
As a Major Component Exchange Technician at Vestas, you'll travel 100% across the Midwest performing specialized gearbox, generator, and retrofit exchanges on wind turbines that power communities with clean energy. This remote, hourly role offers overtime, travel pay, and a $2,500 sign-on bonus, with total earning potential exceeding $100,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Perform major component exchanges including gearboxes, generators, and other critical turbine systems.
- Execute maintenance, minor to medium repairs, design modifications, retrofits, and special projects following established procedures.
- Conduct pre-job risk assessments and identify potential hazards before starting work.
- Travel to wind farm sites across the Midwest region to support turbine operations on multiple platforms.
- Collaborate with site teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all work.
- Conduct safety inspections and maintain a secure working environment throughout all activities.
- Document work activities, time coding, and operational progress for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Support continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and best practices across team environments.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of wind turbine technician experience, or six months wind technician experience with a Wind Technician certificate/education, or 2 years of transferrable mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic experience.
- Preferred hands-on experience with major component exchange (MCE) work on wind turbines.
- Proven expertise in troubleshooting and executing major repairs on various turbine platforms.
- Comfortable with 100% travel and working in varied site and weather conditions.
- Physically fit, comfortable working at heights up to 100 meters and in confined spaces.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; valid driver's license required.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
