Responsibilities
- Provide on-site supervision of the Directional Drilling (DD) process including projection of well path to predetermined target coordinates.
- Serve in a subordinate role on any job under general supervision.
- Understand principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and aspects of DD performance; ensure BHAs are assembled as planned including correct make-up torque, doping, and handling.
- Utilize DD computer software and assist in providing advice and analysis to the client representative at the well site, including all survey calculations and well path projections.
- Update well profile plots and provide client representatives with accurate directional survey data.
- Maintain awareness of client requirements with regards to surveying procedures.
- Assist in completion of daily DD reports, BHA performance reports for each BHA run, service tickets, and relevant paperwork including well data spreadsheets, lessons learned, EJCS, and KPI forms.
- Maintain familiarity with the DD aspects of the client's approved drilling program.
- Assist in inspection of all DD company equipment delivered on the work site.
- Interface with the MWD engineer to ensure BHA compatibility, confirm planned operating parameters are within specification, and apply correct toolface references.
- Maintain records of all DD equipment at the well site including dimensional data and condition.
- Ensure all equipment is laid out after use in accordance with company procedures and manifested for backload at end of job.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of field experience in Directional Drilling, LWD/MWD, or SDL.
- Proficiency in DD computer software for survey calculations and well path projections.
- Ability to read and interpret BHA dimensional data and directional drilling diagrams.
- Strong communication skills for client interaction and team coordination.
